Feeling Anxious? Try These 3 Simple Calming Tricks

It’s no surprise that many of us are feeling anxious these days. The world feels chaotic, and that stress seeps into our bodies before we even realize it. But here’s the good news: You have the power to shift from anxious to calm in just minutes.

First, put down your phone and turn off the news. Constant updates keep your nervous system on high alert, making it harder to relax. Instead, try one of these science-backed ways to reset your body and mind:

Here are three science-backed ways to soothe your nervous system and regain your sense of control:

1 – Hum Your Favourite Show Tune 🎶

Yes, really! Humming activates your vagus nerve, which helps your body switch from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest.” Whether it’s The Sound of Music or Hamilton, pick a tune and hum it loud and proud!

2 – Lay on the FLOOR for 2 Minutes

Not on a yoga mat. Not on the couch. The floor. When you lay flat on a hard surface, your body gets out of “thinking” mode and into “feeling” mode. It’s grounding (literally!) and helps reset your nervous system. Try it next time you feel overwhelmed.

3 – Exhale Longer Than You Inhale (4-7-8 Breathing)

We do this at the end of our small group training sessions, and for good reason! Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale slowly for 8. This signals to your body that it’s safe to relax. Do 4 rounds and feel the tension melt away.

These simple tools are always available to you—no equipment, no cost, just quick ways to calm your mind and body. Give them a try, and let me know which one works best for you!
